Dualities is an expression of my continued fascination with
the juxtaposition of extremes, in which I have explored relationships between
emotion and reason, constructivism and spontaneity, complexity and simplicity.
The resultant musical structure is an accumulation of transitions between contrasting
soundworlds. These transitions vary considerably, being sudden or gradual, fragmented
or continuous. I have used a mathematical knowledge of exponential curves to
govern the timing of the transitions, as well as register and the overall harmonic
material of the composition.
