This year Wien Modern will celebrate Howard’s music with performances of Magnetite, Solar and new orchestral work Calculus of the Nervous System.

Performances of Howard’s work at Wien Modern 2011 include the Austrian première of Magnetite (2007) performed by Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich with Andrés Orozco-Estrada at the Musikverein on 8^th November and the world première of a new orchestral work Calculus of the Nervous System (2011), commissioned by Wien Modern. Calculus of the Nervous System will be performed by the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien conducted by James MacMillan at the Wiener Konzerthaus on 20^th November in a programme which also includes Howard’s Solar (2010) and works by Birtwistle, Cerha and Resch. The festival will also  feature performances of Howard’s Broken Hierarchies (2009) given by the Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik (oenm) and new dramatic vocal work Ada sketches II (2011) performed by Platypus Ensemble, alongside works by established British composers Peter Maxwell Davies and Harrison Birtwistle.
