Soundings Residency and the première of Ada sketches

Howard will be in residence for Soundings X: Looking Back Looking Forward at the Austrian Cultural Forum, London in May 2011 with the unveiling of Ada sketches for mezzo-soprano and chamber ensemble, a reprise of a successful collaboration (Songs From Dickens in 2010) with mezzo Loré Lixenberg.

Ada sketches is inspired by the remarkable life of Ada Lovelace, pioneering mathematician and daughter of Byron. Librettist Laura Tunbridge writes: "Ada Lovelace was torn between a passion for mathematics and the pressure of being the estranged daughter of "mad, bad and dangerous to know" Lord Byron. Her notes on Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine have been heralded as a forerunner of computer programming. In Ada sketches, Ada imagines the future for her work and for herself."
